Meaningful books workshop

In 2016, after nationwide recruitment for„Meaningful books workshop” and program implemented at Dom Słów, in city od Lublin – I had the honor of working with five other artists: Joanna Ambrozja Lewandowska, Marta Tomiak, Dasza Voronina, Karolina Jeske, and Ada Augustyniak on the book „„Puste miejsce przy stole” (eng. Empty Spot at the Table). During that project, we held workshops under the supervision of the irreplaceable: Iwona Chmielewska and Joanna Concejo, Dr. Magdalena Sikorska, and poet Justyna Bargielska. We worked together for 3 weeks in Lublin, holding not only workshops, but also meeting refugees, traveling to support organizations and the refugee center in Wohyń. “Empty Space at the Table” is six personal, graphic novel stories about coping (or not) with the topic of refugeehood. The title of the book refers to the christmas holiday season, when polish tradition dictates leaving a free spot at the table for an unknown newcomer… The book was nominated for the “Strzały 2016” award – a plebiscite of the Gazeta Wyborcza in Lublin regarding the cultural event of the year.
